Diabetes Education manager wins statewide award

The Oregon Chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators has named Jamie Brown, RN, Diabetes and Nutrition Services manager at Samaritan Albany General Hospital, as the Oregon Diabetes Educator of the Year.

“I’m truly surprised and humbled – this is a high honor,” said Brown, who has led the Diabetes Education team in Albany for 10 years. Her team of diabetes educators nominated her for the award.

Brown has been a nurse for 32 years, a registered and licensed dietitian for 12 years and a certified diabetes educator for eight years. Her staff highlighted her assessment and engagement skills, as well as her constant research into new treatments, in the award nomination.

“I love working with the patients,” Brown said. “It’s so rewarding to see them make the changes to improve their health. We have a wonderful staff. I couldn’t ask for better co-workers, and the hospital administration has always been extremely supportive of our program. I feel very blessed to receive the award.”
