Samaritan Health Services is expanding its primary care resident physician program to Albany.
Resident physicians are physicians who have earned a medical degree and then practice medicine within a residency program for training and experience within specific branches of health care. They work closely with supervising senior physicians to provide the best possible care to patients. Resident physicians have been caring for patients at Samaritan Internal Medicine and Samaritan Family Medicine Resident Clinic in Corvallis since 2009.
Samaritan Family Medicine Resident Clinic – Geary Street, has opened it’s doors at Albany’s Geary Street clinical building, which also houses Samarian Family Medicine – Geary Street, Samaritan Heartspring Wellness Center, Samaritan Urgent Care and a retail pharmacy. Longtime Albany physician Gary Goby, MD, will supervise two resident physicians, Anthony Gunsul, DO, and Kate McDonough, DO, at the new clinic two days per week, with clinic hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“More people in our community are benefitting from health coverage, either because of the health insurance exchange or the expansion of the Oregon Health Plan,” said Karen Bohanan, director of primary care for Albany’s clinics. “With thousands of people trying to get in for doctors’ appointments, we are thrilled to welcome these resident physicians to Albany.”
