Taking steps to heal grief

Samaritan Evergreen Hospice is offering free, seven-week Grief Education and Support Groups in Albany from Jan. 22 through March 5.

The groups meet Thursdays at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House, which is located at 4600 Evergreen Place SE (on the corner of Waverly and Del Rio SE). Two sessions are available: the daytime group will meet from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m., and the evening group will meet 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.

There is no charge but registration and a brief phone interview with the facilitator are required.  Participants are asked to commit to attending all of the sessions. For more information or to pre-register contact Virginia Tyler, LPC, at 541-812-4680.

Grief Education and Support Groups provide participants the chance to meet with a small group of people who are also learning how to cope after the death of someone they love. Your loved one does not have to have died on hospice, and the loss does not have to be recent. Groups can provide support and suggestions for coping with the challenges many people face while grieving.

Each session includes information on a particular aspect of grief and suggestions for coping with some of the changes many people experience after a death of a loved one. The groups also provide an opportunity to talk about experiences in a confidential, supportive setting, and to hear from other people how they are adjusting.
