Film fest benefits local cancer patients


View award-winning short films — from a documentary about an all-female mariachi band to how to be a punk rock rebel at age 82 — at this year’s LUNAFEST, a fundraiser for Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Coalition fund.

LUNAFEST will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University. Doors open at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Admission is $15 and $12 for students and seniors. Oregon Trail card holders can purchase tickets at the door for $5 (no online purchasing).

Fifteen percent of the funds raised will support the national Breast Cancer Fund, an organization dedicated to identifying and advocating for the elimination of environmental causes of breast cancer. Remaining proceeds benefit the Women’s Cancer Coalition’s early detection and outreach programs, including free women’s cancer screening events.

The coalition’s mission is to provide increased awareness, education and resources for breast and cervical cancer patients, in Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties. For more information, email or call 541-768-5479.
