The free event is intended for women who have not otherwise had access to regular screenings. It takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Samaritan Obstetrics & Gynecology, 3640 NW Samaritan Drive, Suite 270 (in the Corvallis Medical Center building next to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.)
Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. Transportation and on-site childcare is available if needed. To register, for more information, and to arrange for transportation call 541-768-5300, weekdays. On the day of the event, call the direct line: 541 -768-5540.
If recommended, participants will receive Pap/HPV tests, clinical breast exams and vouchers for free digital mammograms. Breast self-exam instructions, educational materials and light refreshments will also be provided at the event.
Breast cancer is the second-highest cause of cancer-related deaths in women, affecting an average of one in eight women at some point in their lifetimes. Early detection is vital to successful treatment. Early detection is also key to detecting changes in the cervix that can be treated before they become cancer.
The Women’s Cancer Coalition helps low-income, uninsured and underserved women in Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties gain access to lifesaving screening programs for early detection of breast and cervical cancers. Donations to the Women’s Cancer Coalition can be made through the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 3600 NW Samaritan Drive, Corvallis OR 97330, 541-768-4256, samhealth.org/GSHF.
