Free head and neck cancer screenings will be available on Saturday, April 23, in Albany. The “Say Aah and Save Your Life” event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Albany, 1215 Hill St. SE.
Every hour a person in the U.S. dies from oral cancer. Tobacco and alcohol are major risk factors, as well as HPV — a virus that can cause oral cancer. Unexplained hoarseness, a sore throat that does not resolve within two weeks, a lump or thick spot in the mouth or on the neck are a few of the signs and symptoms of these types of cancers.
This screening event is open to adults 18 and older who are uninsured or underinsured, or who have not otherwise had access to a regular screening. Attendees will be screened by local volunteer dental professionals: Patrick Hagerty, DMD; Pete Morse, DMD; Scott Nicholson, DMD; and Molly Morse, RDH.
Registration is required. Call 541-768-2171 for an appointment. If necessary, follow-up medical recommendations will be given at the time of screening.
