Art Heals: A Workshop Exploring Illness and Recovery

Art Heals is an open workshop exploring art materials and activities centered on themes of illness and recovery.

The free workshop series is collaborative effort by the Samaritan Cancer Program and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon. The program is supported by the Oregon Arts Commission and Imagination International.

Most workshops take place at Samaritan Pastega Regional Cancer Center, 501 NW Elks Drive, Corvallis. Registration is required. Please call 541-768-2171 to register or for more information.

Attendees are welcome to join at any time, and they need not attend all sessions. Activities include a self-portrait collage, meditative coloring mandala and experimenting with Copic markers. Each participant will receive an Art-to-Go box to take home. These upcoming sessions are geared toward cancer survivors and their loved ones:

Friday, April 8, 1 to 3 p.m.
Friday, May 20, noon to 3 p.m. Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art field trip
Sunday, June 5, Cancer Survivors Day
Friday, June 10, reception
Additional sessions will continue throughout the summer and fall.

Sessions are being led by art museum educators from the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon and an occupational therapist/art educator from Oregon Health and Science University, as well as staff from the Samaritan Cancer Program.

Selected works of art created during the workshops will be exhibited at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus beginning in June.
