Everyone is invited to join the celebration Tuesday, Sept. 12, at a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. The program will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the hospital’s main parking lot, which will be the site for the new facility.

“After months of discussion and planning, it’s so exciting to be at the point where we can invite the community and staff to our groundbreaking,” said Lesley Ogden, MD, chief executive officer of Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital.

“We won’t actually be digging into the ground just yet, though,” she said. “The initial stages of construction will begin in early 2018. We decided on an early autumn celebration rather than one in the middle of winter because we wanted to enjoy our moment in the sunshine, both figuratively and literally.”

The idea of a new hospital building to replace the nearly 50-year-old building had been under consideration for some time. In September 2015, North Lincoln Health District, Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and Samaritan Health Services announced that the health district would transfer ownership of the hospital facilities and real properties to Samaritan. In turn, Samaritan would construct a new critical access hospital on the current hospital campus.

On Feb. 3, 2016, the agreement became official with the closing of the property transaction between the district and Samaritan. In July of that same year, HGA Architects and Engineers and Skanska USA Building were selected to partner in the planning, design and construction of the new hospital. Since then, numerous staff members and community members have participated in brainstorming sessions to help transform the hospital from the inside out – beginning with new processes to enhance the patient experience, followed by the design of a new building to support patients, families and staff.

The project is being funded without a tax increase through the sale of revenue bonds.
