Enjoy a Healthier Holiday Recipe: Blue-Cranberry Sauce

Ditch that canned cranberry sauce and keep tradition alive with this healthy, delicious and simple cranberry sauce alternative that the entire family can enjoy. The average cranberry sauce contains about 22 grams of sugar per serving. In contrast, this recipe only contains 12 grams of sugar per serving and adds a twist to the classic holiday sauce with the sweetness of blueberries.


12 oz. cranberries, fresh
2 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/3 cup sugar or other sweetener like honey
1 cup water


  1. Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan and stir to combine.
  2. Heat on high until the water comes to a boil, then reduce to medium-low.
  3. Cook for about 20 to 30 minutes, until berries can be easily mashed.
  4. Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving. Makes 9 servings.
