“Every person who touches that patient is devoted to getting them back to how they were before they came to see us,” said Matthew Lindberg, MD, medical director of Samaritan’s heart and vascular programs. “For instance, with a patient undergoing cardiac surgery, their experience doesn’t end with the surgery. They see a cardiologist as an outpatient, they have cardiac rehab, they follow up with their primary care provider, they’re having their diabetes or their other risk factors worked on — all designed to keep that patient healthy and well.”
Samaritan Health Services is the regional destination for heart and vascular care. The Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery departments are headquartered at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, and clinics are also conveniently located for patients in Albany, Lebanon, Lincoln City and Newport. Through a partnership with Stanford Health Care, the level of care available to patients of the mid-Willamette Valley and central Oregon Coast is unparalleled.
“From the moment our patients set foot in our health care system, and even beyond discharge to after-discharge care, we are planning for further improvements, trying to guide the patient towards a better state of health, to get them to feel better, to live better,” said Cardiothoracic Surgeon Edward Bender, MD, who joined Samaritan through the partnership with Stanford Health Care.
With all of these resources at hand, Samaritan’s cardiologists and cardiac surgeons feel well-equipped to provide the highest level of care. All aspects of care are geared toward helping each patient experience the best possible results.
“We want patients to proceed to optimal health,” Dr. Bender said. “We rely on each other’s expertise to make sure our patients get the best possible care and have the best possible outcomes.”
This individualized care often includes building lasting relationships with patients.
“This event that they are going through may be one of the most significant of their lives,” said Dr. Lindberg. “Patients put their care and their trust in us. That is awe-inspiring, every single time.”
