Auxiliary Donates $10,000 to Lincoln City Hospital Project

At its first general membership meeting of the year, the North Lincoln Hospital Auxiliary presented a $10,000 donation to help furnish and equip the replacement hospital building.

“What a wonderful gift and an exciting boost to our community campaign,” said Cathy Sandoval, North Lincoln Hospital Foundation Executive Director, upon receiving the gift. “This donation and others have pushed us more than half way to our goal of raising $7 million.”

Proceeds from the community campaign are earmarked for the purchase of state-of-the art medical equipment for the replacement hospital building. Construction on the new building will begin later this year and is scheduled to be completed in late 2019. The existing hospital building, which opened in 1968, will be removed.

“It’s gratifying to know that this community supports their nonprofit hospital and understands that all donations, large and small, will ultimately benefit each one of us,” Sandoval said.

Founded in 1965, the North Lincoln Hospital Auxiliary has been in existence longer than the hospital itself and, in fact, helped to promote the urgent need for a hospital in this small community. Now, almost 53 years later, the auxiliary is still very active in supporting and raising funds for Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. Last year, 52 members volunteered 8,343 hours of service to the organization.

“We have a wonderful and dedicated group of men and women who volunteer their services to make our hospital and our community a better place,” said Celeste O’Brien, hospital volunteer services coordinator. “I must also praise the staff and community members who support our various fundraising efforts. Last year, through their generosity, we raised close to $30,000.”

These funds come from gift shop sales and several annual fundraising events, including the spring orchid sale, book sales, scrub sales and bake sale. In turn, the auxiliary contributed close to $20,000 to the hospital to purchase equipment and programs, including a new treatment table for rehabilitation services, a patient monitoring system, a reading program and more.
