The Rehabilitation Services department of Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital is now seeing patients in their new space located on the second floor of the SamFit facility at 1111 SW 10th Street, Newport.
This is a permanent move to enhance the patient experience. With more than three-times the square footage of the previous location, therapists can now offer patients a roomy gym with additional equipment and walking circuit in a more therapeutic setting with windows overlooking the ocean.
The new facility also offers additional exam rooms, a comfortable waiting area, a separate speech therapy room with soundproofing, a much larger hand therapy room and a secondary space for gait training and balance.
“In addition to a much more patient-friendly and spacious location, this new facility offers patients much more privacy,” said Jennifer Miller, physical therapist. “Additionally, we have addressed a bottleneck from our previous location in our registration process. We now have a second registration desk, which will make the check-in for patients much faster.”
With the added space, the department can begin to expand from six therapists to 11, an expansion necessary to meet the growing demand.
“Currently, we see between 50 and 65 patients daily, and the demand is much greater than we can meet. Our hope with this new space is that we will recruit new therapists so that patients can get in for therapy within a week of when the order is written,” Miller added.
The facility is located just off Highway 101 with on-site parking. Entrance is to the right (south) of the SamFit entrance, with a quick ride by elevator to the second floor. The department phone number remains the same at 541-574-1823.
