There’s great news for people interested in achieving healthy skin using natural ingredients. Many of the same great results in skin care are now available through natural enzyme products made from plant materials.
Enzyme facials are the newest treatment available through Cosmetic Services at Samaritan Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgery.
“Enzymes offer many similar benefits to chemical peels,” said Megan Gerding, LA, an advanced aesthetician with Samaritan.
The gentle exfoliation and powerful antioxidants correct skin tone and texture, hydrate skin and remove impurities such as clogged pores.
The main difference between an enzyme facial and a pore-refining facial is that the cleanser and exfoliant are switched with enzyme products, which have active ingredients that are more aggressive, but still gentle enough for sensitive skin.
“Enzyme facials are a wonderful option for clients who do not want a chemical peel or whose skin is too sensitive for chemical peels,” Gerding said.
They are also a great option for summertime, or when people take vacations to sunny locations, conditions when a traditional chemical peel treatment is not recommended.
The enzyme facial takes the same amount of time, about one hour, and begins with a skin evaluation to assess an individual’s unique skin care needs.
Next, a papaya enzyme cleanser is applied to double-cleanse the skin with steam. After the skin is clean, an enzyme exfoliant mask customized to an individual’s skin needs is applied. The facial also includes extractions, a deep hydrating mask and application of facial serums, moisturizer and sunscreen.
With enzyme facials, people experience calm and soothed skin.
“It detoxifies and leaves skin feeling soft and nourished,” Gerding said.
