Spring can be beautiful on the Oregon Coast. It’s a good time to shake off winter weariness and take charge of your health.
To get you started, Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital is offering a free health expo on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth Street, in Newport. The event offers nearly a dozen health screenings and 30 booths of health resources by hospital staff and community partners.
“The Healthier You Expo is our favorite event of the year,” said Amy Conner, health resource coordinator. “We bring together a building full of people who truly care about your health and well-being, and participants get the information they need to make positive changes in their lives.”
As a wellness coach with Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital, Conner knows how basic health information can motivate people to develop healthier habits in their lives.
“Information is power, and sometimes all you need to get on a healthier path is to know where you’re starting from. These screenings give participants that information, and where they go with those results is up to them. But we hope they’ll choose a healthy way forward,” Conner said.
Free screenings include bone density, body composition (percent body fat), lung health, blood pressure, posture analysis, sleep disorder information, dental screening, vision and glaucoma test, blood glucose test (requires a three-hour fast), balance and leg strength assessment and hearing screen. Also, participants can meet with a clinic specialist to find a local provider for their health care.
