Samaritan Foundations welcomes Darrel Kau, the new executive director of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. Kau joins the Samaritan Foundations team with more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and administration.
Kau, a native of Eugene, has held positions in that area. He has worked with the University of Oregon, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts and the Eugene Ballet Company. He has served as a development and marketing consultant for various non-profit institutions as well.
For the past nine years, he was the development director for FOOD for Lane County where he raised funds for annual operations and several capital campaign projects. He has also served on boards and committees with the Oregon Food Bank, the Oregon Cultural Trust, the Oregon Community Foundation, Catholic Community Services of Lane County, and Emerald Valley Development Professionals.
In addition, he was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Oregon for 18 years.
Kau had recently completed several capital campaigns with FOOD for Lane County when the Good Samaritan position came to his attention.
“I was inspired by Samaritan’s values and goals, and I wanted to learn more,” he said. “When I interviewed with leadership, I was even more inspired by their vision, and I’ve found everyone here to be very welcoming. This is a wonderful environment to work in. I am very excited to be here and to help build a healthier community together.”
