Camilia Makhyoun, DO, has joined Samaritan Kidney Specialists – Corvallis. She specializes in treating acute and chronic kidney conditions and diseases.
She earned a bachelor’s degree at Appalachian State University and a medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed residency training at UNC Health Blue Ridge, formerly Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge, and a fellowship at Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Makhyoun is committed to helping people prevent illness and maintain their health.
“The most important thing is being able to connect with my patients and make sure they feel heard,” she said. “I want them to understand everything that was discussed when they walk out of their appointment.”
Dr. Makhyoun’s father, who was a urologist, died when she was two.
“I have a very loving Appalachian mother who raised me to be strong and independent,” she said.
Dr. Makhyoun first visited Corvallis as a medical student when she did an internal medicine rotation at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. The town and the people she met left a positive impression.
“I am honored to return as a physician,” she said.
Dr. Makhyoun is passionate about the environment, values kindness and has a 14-year-old, one-eyed black cat.
In her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing pool, meditation, being in nature and traveling.
“I have been fortunate to travel to many countries, including Egypt, Peru, China and Costa Rica, as well as Europe,” she said. “I feel fortunate to connect with native-Spanish speakers in their own language. I would like to learn Arabic, but at this point, I can only speak pleasantries.”
Dr. Makhyoun is accepting new patients and referrals. Samaritan Kidney Specialists is based in Corvallis, and providers also see patients in Albany, Lebanon, Newport and Lincoln City. For more information, call 541-768-6930.
