Military Veterans Encouraged to Share Their Photography

Veterans with a knack for photography have until Tuesday, May 31 to submit their images for an upcoming photo exhibit.

The “Through a Veterans’ Lens” photo exhibit is open to any veteran who served in the military and resides in Benton, Lincoln or Linn counties.

All veterans are encouraged to participate. The entrants can submit up to four photos. Fill out an entry form and submit digital images as high-resolution jpeg files to ArtsCare@samhealth.org with “Veterans’ Photo Exhibit” in the subject line.

To qualify as an exhibitor, the photographer must reside in one of the three counties and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“We are soliciting photos that reflect the personal experiences and perspectives of veterans,” said Sara Krainik, ArtsCare Program Coordinator.

Photos may have been taken before, during or after the time of active service. The project is a collaboration between ArtsCare and Veterans Outreach.

“Submit photos that you believe best represent your personal experience of patriotism,” Krainik said. “We expect that the images in the photos will be as unique as the veterans themselves and may range from beloved landscapes in our communities to combat scenes  and from family members to flowers."

The deadline for submissions has been extended until Tuesday, May 31.

The final images will be included in an exhibit at The Arts Center in Corvallis, which will open the end of September and wrap up in November over Veterans Day weekend.

Photos selected for the exhibit will be professionally mounted with a placard that includes the photographer’s name, rank and photo title. When the show is over, the image will be given to the photographer.

Plans are to open the photo exhibit with a reception and a lunch featuring some of the photographers. If you have any questions contact Krainik at ArtsCare@samhealth.org or 541-768-7138.
