Family Medicine Residency Program
Welcome to Our Program
Our program is dedicated to training full-spectrum physicians who are able to meet the needs of the communities around them and advocate for change. We embrace lifelong learning and forward growth, both as individuals and as an organization.
Our fully-accredited residency program operates in three different communities (Albany, Lebanon and Corvallis), but comes together as a cohesive unit in our home base of Corvallis, Oregon. This allows residents to work in a variety of practice settings to better understand population health disparities and patient demographics.
With the help of our residents, we will continue to evolve and progress as a program and we look forward to meeting you.
Meet the Director
I look forward to working with you and encourage you to contact me if you have any questions about my vision for the residency, approach to education, or leadership philosophy. I hope that you find Samaritan Family Medicine as the right residency program for you.
-John A. Edwards, MD, MPH, FAAF
Curriculum
This three-year (36-month) program is designed to prepare our residents to be leaders in healthcare, with the skills to practice a full-spectrum of family medicine. The Academic year is divided into 13 blocks each year and has a longitudinal element as well as the block rotations.
Meet the Faculty & Residents
Our residents are an exemplary group with diverse interests within the scope of family medicine.
Our faculty are equally diverse in interests and style. We are fortunate to have a large group of committed and excellent practitioners dedicated to educating the next generation of family physicians. We continually hear feedback from rotating students and residents expressing excitement to have worked with our passionate and energetic attending family physicians.
Communities We Serve
We are one program with three continuity clinic site locations including Albany, Corvallis and Lebanon.
Most of the rotations during the first year are done in Corvallis. During second and third year, all residents will have opportunities to rotate in the three communities, as well as our coastal sites in Lincoln City and Newport, while continuing to manage their patient panel in their own continuity clinic site.
All of our continuity clinics are Patient-Centered Medical Homes with additional support staff to help care for our patients. This includes mental health specialists, nutritionists, pharmacists, care coordinators and others.
Explore Our Region
From the Willamette Valley to the central Oregon Coast, our region offers beautiful landscapes, endless recreation and many wonderful cities to call home.
