About Mario Pastega
Mario Pastega (Dec. 16, 1916 - Jan. 20, 2012) was well known in the community as a philanthropist and the president of Pepsi Bottling Company of Corvallis. In 2002, he was named to the National Bottlers Hall of Fame for his industry leadership.
Active in many community organizations and noted for his generosity, he was a member of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees from 1981 to 2011. He was co-chair, along with Jean Starker Roth, of the foundation’s fund drive to build the Ralph Hull Regional Heart Center, which opened in 2002.
In 2002, Mario and Alma Pastega made a $350,000 pledge to initiate the construction of a guest house on the campus of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. The Good Samaritan Hospital Board of Trustees voted to name the facility The Mario Pastega Hospitality House in recognition of this gift.
In addition to giving financial assistance, Pastega agreed to lead a fund drive to raise additional money for the house: approximately another $800,000 for construction and $1.5 million for an endowment. The children of Mario and Alma Pastega donated $50,000 to the fund drive, and many community members have made contributions to the Mario Pastega House Endowment in honor of his memory.
