What is a Facelift?
With aging, characteristic changes occur to the skin and supportive connective tissues of the face. This leads to descent of skin causing formation of jowls, a more sunken appearance to the cheeks, and formation of creases and wrinkles in the skin. Facelift surgery corrects these signs of aging by not only tightening the skin of the face but also by re-elevating the underlying supportive tissues of the face to a more youthful position.
A neck lift is typically included in the procedure. Additional adjunctive procedures may include fat grafting, eyelid surgery or brow surgery to create a harmonious youthful appearance for your entire face. Facelift surgery is not meant to change how you look, rather it works to “roll back the clock” making you look like yourself 10 to 15 years ago.
You may be a good candidate for facelift surgery if you are healthy, do not smoke, and have specific and realistic expectations regarding recovery and appearance. While facelift surgery can restore a more youthful appearance, it cannot completely half the aging process.
What is a Brow Lift?
A common characteristic of the aging face is deepened frown lines and furrows in the forehead and eyebrow area. This can be accompanied by a lower position of the eyebrows and a heavy appearance of the eyebrows and upper eyelids. Brow lift surgery reduces the deep lines and creases in the forehead, and elevates the brow to a more youthful position. The procedure is often done in conjunction with eyelid surgery and/or facelift surgery to create a more youthful appearance.
You may be a good candidate for brow lift surgery if you are a healthy, non-smoker with moderate to deep forehead lines and creases. The procedure can be done in minimally invasive fashion through small hairline incisions that remain well hidden and inconspicuous. The results of brow lift surgery tend to be long lasting.
What is an Eyelid Lift?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is performed for cosmetic purposes or occasionally to treat obstruction of the field of view due to drooping of the upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can be used to correct puffiness, loose sagging skin, eyelid wrinkles, bags under the eyes and droopiness of the eyelids.
You may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if you are healthy and a non-smokers who does not have pre-existing problems with their eyes. You may need an exam with an eye doctor before pursuing eyelid surgery. In instances of blepharoplasty to treat limited field of view, insurance may sometimes cover the cost of surgery. The incisions are placed inconspicuously within the lash line, inside the eyelid or within natural eyelid creases.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is surgery performed on the external and internal structures of the nose to improve appearance and proportion and/or correct impaired breathing due to structural abnormalities. For cosmetic concerns, rhinoplasty is able to change the size of the nose and alter the width of the nose at the nasal bridge. It can also be used to change the nose profile with correction of humps or depressions and alter the nasal tip if it is too bulbous, too pinched, drooping or upturned. Nasal asymmetry may also be corrected.
Structural abnormalities due to trauma or congenital internal defects can be corrected with rhinoplasty surgery. Difficulty breathing through the nose can result from deviation of the nasal septum (the division between the nostrils), abnormal overgrowth of bony structures in the nasal cavity or cartilage abnormalities. These procedures may be covered by your insurance but may also require specific preoperative diagnostic testing.
You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you are healthy, your facial growth is complete (usually age 13 or older), you do not smoke and you have specific, realistic goals in mind for the improvement in your appearance.
