Compassionate Medical Services Available for Survivors of Sexual Assault

Sarah’s Place is the first SANE center in Oregon to provide a setting where sexual assault nurse examiners work with patients in a discreet environment separate from the emergency department.

Sarah’s Place was designed with input from sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) specialists to include exam rooms and consultation rooms for patients and families. The center also has a conference room for confidential conversations.

Who is Sarah?

Sarah is the name chosen to represent all who have experienced sexual assault. At Sarah’s Place, we recognize our collective responsibility to provide a safe and private space for anyone needing immediate medical treatment from sexual trauma. This means we provide inclusive care for all genders.

Each year, thousands of women, men and children face some type of sexual assault and, on average, only 25 to 34 percent report their experience and seek care. Survivors of sexual assault frequently have limited access to immediate care in their community and examination by qualified staff. Sarah’s Place aims to change that statistic by providing compassionate, expert care.

All services are free, funded in part by Oregon State Crime Victim’s Compensation, the annual Samaritan Employee Caring Campaign, and Samaritan Health Services.
