da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Doctors Are Changing How They Perform Surgery

The doctors at Samaritan Health Services are changing how they perform surgery without compromising patient care or outcomes.

The da Vinci® surgical system gives doctors an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a doctor’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform.

This approach helps doctors perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. With this technology, surgeries require only a few small incisions, so you can get back to your life faster – without the usual recovery time following major surgery.

Samaritan Health Services has offered this world class medical approach at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center since 2010.

Samaritan Albany General Hospital brought the da Vinci® surgical system online in 2021 and now has and a fully integrated operating suite for robotic-assisted surgery.

How the “Robot” Works

Though the da Vinci system is often referred to as a “robot,” it cannot operate on its own. A doctor is in control, using his or her hand movements to create smaller, more precise movements using tiny instruments inside your body. This technology helps doctors perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings.

As a result, you will have less blood loss, pain and scarring after surgery, shorter hospital stays and are able to get back to normal activities faster. The da Vinci surgical system has been successfully used in hundreds of thousands of minimally invasive procedures worldwide.
