Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital offers a monthly class for anyone with questions about how to fill out an Advance Directive form.

The Advance Directive is a set of instructions that expresses a person’s health care wishes if they were ever in the hospital and unable to speak for themselves. The Advance Directive tells the medical team who can speak for the patient and what the patient’s medical wishes are. While this document can feel overwhelming, these workshops will attempt to make the confusing feel more understandable.

During each session, Chaplain Pauline Morrison, will provide education and will give people the opportunity to complete their own Advance Directive. Other topics will also be mentioned, such as “quality of life” and the Portable Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form, which is another document used to specify a person’s wishes, especially about CPR.

These workshops take place the third Wednesday of every month (except July and December) from 3:30 to 5 p.m.at the Center for Health Education in Newport.

Registration is requested, either by registering online or calling Morrison at 541-996-6100.
