In order to care for our loved ones and families during serious illness and end-of life, we need to take time to care of ourselves. Samaritan Evergreen Hospice is offering a safe and empowering Mind-Body Medicine skills group especially for caregivers.

Each session will focus on a proven self-care technique to reduce tensions and fatigue and increase resilience, calmness and joy. Together we’ll discover a variety of ways to decrease feelings of hopelessness, depression and anxiety and to increase well-being, control and joy. These group sessions are supportive and fun! Our discussions are confidential, open and respectful times to work on restoring energy. Through a supportive group of others who know well the demands of care giving, we will learn ways to relax and cope with the demands of life.

Each group starts with a basic breathing meditation and a check-in. There is a short didactic on the week’s topic, followed by time to practice together and share about the experience.

Topics Skills:

  • Prescription for Self-Care The Call to Self-Awareness
  • Acknowledging our Emotions Gratitude Journaling
  • Guided Meditation & Wise Guide Guided Imagery
  • Autogenics & Biofeedback Body Scan & Relaxation
  • Expressive Meditation The Power of Movement
  • Dialogue with a Symptom Expressive Writing
  • Genograms Finding Strength from Ancestors
  • Deepening the Practice Ritual

The self-care model we’ll use has been developed by Dr. James Gordon, founder of The Center for Mind Body Medicine. Since 1991, Jim Gordon and his faculty have empowered thousands of people to take charge of their own health and healing using these skills in small groups. Individuals can safely grow in their own self-confidence into supportive communities of hope and healing. See www.cmbm.org for more information.

J. Anna Looney, a certified CMBM facilitator and founder of Insight Journeys, LLC, combines her training in social interaction and facilitation with a lifelong passion for communications, holistic health and humanism to share mind/body techniques for stress reduction and self-care. Anna can be reached by email: annalooney22@gmail.com.

Registration is required, but there is no charge to participate. Thank you for your interest!
