Knee Replacement Surgery
Dr. Butler has been in practice since 1973. He is a member of the Oregon Association of Orthopedists and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
In many cases, Dr. Butler uses patient-specific customized surgical instruments for total knee replacements. Before knee replacement surgery, each patient receives an MRI to create an image of the existing joint. That image is then used to create a 3-D replica of the joint. With that replica, Dr. Butler decides where to make the correct cuts and a custom guide is created to those specifications. This template guide then clips onto the bones during surgery to show the surgeon exactly where to cut.
Since all the planning is done before-hand, surgery is simply a matter of using the template and making the cuts. And shorter surgery times mean less risk for patients.

“This is going to be the new standard for surgeries. The process is safer for patients and helps ensure a better knee after surgery,” said Dr. Butler. “And that’s the whole point of a joint replacement – getting my patients back to enjoying their everyday lives.”
